Museo Ninja de Iga-Ryu

Ninja Museum of Iga-Ryu (117-13-1 Ueno Marunouchi, Iga-shi, Mie-ken) – located 5 hours west of Tokyo, this museum showcases the history of the famed ninja warriors – who originally came from this Japanese town. Visitors will learn that ninjutsu is a classic military tactic consisting of espionage, reconnaissance, disruption and plotting (among other elements), which originated as a means of self-preservation and self-defense. It is also a practical method for avoiding battle and instead building “wa,” a peaceful, stable, equilibrium of coexistence.

In addition to exhibits, visitors to this museum are treated to ninja shows, and videos showing how ninjas can infiltrate an enemy fortification undetected, and how to escape undetected as well. There, visitors can also learn about the tools ninja used to carry out their strategies, and even try using some of the tools by themselves. There are over 400 ninja tools on display, including shuriken actually used in the time of the ninja. Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily. Admission: ¥756 (adult), ¥432 (children).
